Many military personnel feel ashamed to admit that they suffer from emotional problems due to their work. This stigma often prevents service members from seeking the care they need. Even if they are willing to seek help, they often run into a number of existing problems. Some of them are as follows:

  • Proficient mental health professionals are hard to find and often difficult to access for service members.
  • Superiors, family members, and medical personnel in their surroundings are insufficiently trained in matters relating to psychological health.
  • Even if they can find help, their family members, who are often also in need of assistance, have difficulties obtaining the same adequate mental health treatment.
  • Some Department of Defense policies are overly conservative, and the service members in need are afraid that their psychological files will have a negative effect on their careers.
  • The military often does not provide enough financial support for psychological and mental treatment for their service members and their families.
  • Many female service members do not only suffer from the emotional wounds of the battles they were in, but sometimes suffer even more from the damage caused by the sexual assaults of their own fellow service members.

Veterans
Many veterans suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). They often feel alone, depressed, and angry because they gave so much of themselves but now feel abandoned by the same society and government for whom they have risked their life.

The PMA Easy Plan offers active service members as well as veterans a powerful self-help tool. It also provides them with the tool to help their peers.
